When it’s time for you to put a new roof on your house, you’ll have a variety of roofing materials and styles to choose from. Making up your mind can be a little daunting. It’s not like you ever get enough experience with roofing to become an expert. That’s where All Weather Roofing of Cleveland comes in!
We’ve been installing residential roofing on Cleveland homes since 1984. In all those years, we’ve seen a lot of changes, but one thing has remained pretty constant. Shingles continue to be the most popular choice for residential roofing in Cleveland and all across the country – for good reason!
Shingle Roofs
Shingles have been laid on roofs to help protect the people living and working beneath that roof for centuries, but they have changed a lot over time as new more effective materials became available and as people’s tastes changed.
“Wood and slate shingles and clay tiles were the predominant roofing choice until the mid-19th century, when metal and bituminous roofing systems made low-slope applications possible,” Architect Magazine says. “During the 20th century, several new materials were developed for low- and steep-sloped roofs. Among them was the asphalt shingle, which arrived on the scene around the turn of the 20th century and continues to be the top roofing material for houses.”
Asphalt shingles weren’t the only advancement in roofing during the 1900s. As Architect Magazine reports, “The 20th century also saw the development of roofing materials with various levels of durability and fire resistance as well as the introduction of roof-related components such as gutters, downspouts, and flashing.”
We might still be making shingles from asphalt, but the ones being made today are very different from the shingles laid on roofs back in the early 1900s. “After a period of market experimentation with various shapes, patterns, and textures, the asphalt shingle evolved in form to the three-tab version popular today,” Architect Magazine says.
Today, you can also choose from a variety of color options and textures. When you’re ready to sit down at your computer and type “roofing contractors near me” in the search box, the pros at All Weather Roofing of Cleveland will be ready and waiting to help you decide which roof is right for you!
